The second wife of Sir Robert Ho Tung, Mrs. Cheung Ching-rong, purchased this land from the government for HK$1.7, and used the entire wedding anniversary gift of HK$1935 to build Tung Lin-Kue Court, which was named after Sir and Mrs. Ho Tung's royal name, Cheung Lin-Kue. Combined, it is a Buddhist place built in XNUMX together with the neighboring Baojue Primary School. Donglianjue Garden adopted the popular Chinese Renaissance architectural style at the time, using Western technology to build a Chinese-style appearance. The floor was paved with imported Italian floor tiles, Western stained glass was installed, and the interior decoration was a combination of Chinese and Western walls. Tung Lin Kok Yuen is the first Buddhist temple on Hong Kong Island and has been designated as a statutory monument.
