Audio guide introduction: 1 minute 20 seconds

Like the Health Education Exhibition and Information Centre, the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Center was also formerly located at Whitfield Road Barracks. After more than a hundred years of baptism, Whitfield Road Barracks has been transformed into a heritage discovery center and an education center for promoting local cultural relics and heritage conservation.

Just looking at its appearance, you can also tell that it is an English-style building. During restoration works that began in 2003, the original entrance at S61 facing Haiphong Road was reopened. The windows gradually changed into the current iron-framed windows, allowing light to penetrate into the interior. The entrance to the special exhibition hall in the museum is even equipped with a bronze gate from the former Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation headquarters building. In addition, there are open-air seats in the building courtyard, so you might as well sit there quietly and enjoy the tranquility of the garden when you have time.

In 2005, the restoration project of Whitfield Road Barracks was highly praised by all walks of life, and thus it won the "Hong Kong Institute of Architects Annual Award: Theme Architecture Award - Heritage Architecture". In 2007, the building was awarded the "Jury Innovation Award" at the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Conservation Awards.
